About Shingles Vaccination
Shingles vaccination helps protect against shingles, a painful viral infection caused by reactivation of the chickenpox virus. The vaccine works by stimulating the immune system to recognise and respond to the virus, reducing the risk of developing shingles and related complications.
At Longeva Wellness, vaccinations are delivered through a pharmacist-led service with a full clinical assessment carried out before administration to ensure safety and suitability.
Who Should Consider This Vaccination?
Shingles vaccination is recommended for adults over 50 and individuals in at-risk groups who may be more vulnerable to complications. A brief pre-vaccination assessment is completed to confirm suitability based on your medical history and current health status.
Patients travel to our clinic from Rochdale, Manchester and across Greater Manchester for pharmacist-led vaccination services delivered under clinical supervision.
What To Expect at Your Appointment
Appointments are quick and straightforward. A short health screening is completed before vaccination to confirm eligibility. The injection itself takes only a few seconds and you may be asked to remain briefly afterwards as a precaution.
The appointment is typically completed within a few minutes.
After Your Vaccination
Mild side effects such as a sore arm, fatigue or a low-grade temperature can occur and usually resolve within a day or two. These are normal signs that the immune system is responding to the vaccine.
Serious reactions are rare and all patients receive clear aftercare advice.

A brief health check is carried out to confirm suitability. Certain conditions or medications may affect timing or eligibility.

Do I need a booster?
Some vaccines require boosters to maintain protection. Our team advises on whether this applies and when.

Who should not receive this vaccine
This vaccine is not suitable for everyone. You should not receive it if you have had a previous severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to this vaccine or to any of its components. If you have an acute febrile illness, vaccination is usually delayed until you have recovered. Our clinician screens for contraindications before any vaccine is given, and our team is trained and equipped to manage medical emergencies including anaphylaxis.
Safety, governance and regulation
The vaccines we use are approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), and our service follows current UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) guidance. Vaccines are administered by a registered pharmacist under Patient Group Direction (PGD) or Patient Specific Direction (PSD) frameworks.
After your vaccination
Most side effects are mild and short-lived, such as a sore arm, tiredness or a mild fever. Serious reactions are very rare. Seek urgent medical help, or call 999, if you develop red-flag symptoms after vaccination such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips or throat, a widespread rash, or a fast heartbeat. Suspected reactions can be reported through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
NHS or private?
Some people are eligible for this vaccine free on the NHS. Where you are not eligible, or would prefer not to wait, we offer it privately. We will tell you which applies to you.
Common questions
Do I really need this vaccine?
Whether you need it depends on your age, health and risk. We give a risk-based recommendation and explain what is available privately and what you may be eligible for on the NHS.
Is it safe?
The vaccines we use are MHRA-approved and subject to ongoing safety monitoring (pharmacovigilance).
I have had the illness before, why vaccinate?
Immunity can wane over time, and some viruses change between seasons, so a past illness does not always protect you.
I am worried about side effects
Most side effects are mild and temporary. Serious reactions are extremely rare, and our team is equipped to manage them.
Can I wait?
Delaying vaccination can leave you unprotected when seasonal or travel-related risk is highest.
