What is chickenpox vaccination?
The chickenpox vaccine helps protect against chickenpox, an infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus. Chickenpox is often mild but can cause more serious illness in some people.

What happens at your appointment?
We review relevant medical history, medicines, allergies, current health, previous chickenpox and vaccination history. If vaccination is appropriate, your pharmacist will explain the recommended course and aftercare.
How many doses are needed?
The appropriate schedule depends on age and individual circumstances. For many people a two-dose course is used, but your pharmacist will confirm the schedule that applies to you rather than relying on a generic timetable.
Side effects and aftercare
Common reactions can include pain or swelling where the vaccine was given, a high temperature or a rash. Serious allergic reactions are rare. You will receive aftercare advice and information on when to seek medical help.
