What is RSV?
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common respiratory virus. Although many infections are mild, RSV can cause more serious illness in some people, particularly older adults and people with certain health risks.
What does RSV vaccination do?
RSV vaccination is designed to reduce the risk of serious illness caused by RSV. Whether vaccination is appropriate depends on factors including age, health, previous vaccination and individual risk.
Who may consider RSV vaccination?
The NHS RSV vaccination programme has defined eligibility criteria. Private vaccination may be considered outside that pathway for some people following an individual clinical assessment. We will review your circumstances and explain the options relevant to you.
What happens at your appointment?
Your pharmacist will review your medical history, medicines, allergies, current health and relevant vaccination history before confirming suitability. Vaccination can then be provided where clinically appropriate and available.
Side effects and aftercare
Side effects depend on the vaccine used and can include injection-site discomfort, headache, tiredness or muscle aches. You will receive aftercare advice. Seek urgent medical help if you develop symptoms suggesting a severe allergic reaction.

Frequently asked questions
Is RSV the same as flu?
No. RSV and influenza are different respiratory infections. The vaccinations used to protect against them are also different.
Am I eligible for an NHS RSV vaccination?
NHS eligibility follows current programme criteria. If you are unsure, check the current NHS guidance or speak to a healthcare professional. Our service is a private vaccination service.
Can everyone have an RSV vaccine?
No. Suitability depends on individual clinical factors, which are reviewed before vaccination.
What should I bring?
Bring details of your medicines and relevant vaccination history where possible so your pharmacist can complete an informed assessment.
