Conjunctivitis can cause redness, watering, irritation, a gritty feeling or discharge from one or both eyes. Symptoms can have different causes, including infection, allergy and irritation. Longeva Wellness provides pharmacist-led assessment in Rochdale for patients across Greater Manchester.
Your conjunctivitis consultation
Your pharmacist will review your symptoms, how they started, whether one or both eyes are affected, relevant medical history, contact-lens use and other factors that may help determine the appropriate next step.
Treatment and self-care
Treatment depends on the likely cause and severity of symptoms. Some cases can be managed with hygiene and supportive care, while suitable pharmacy treatment may be considered where clinically appropriate. Antibiotics are not appropriate for every red or irritated eye.
When urgent eye assessment may be needed
Significant eye pain, changes or loss of vision, marked sensitivity to light, eye injury, chemical exposure or other concerning symptoms require prompt medical or specialist eye assessment. Contact-lens wearers with a painful red eye should seek urgent assessment.
