Travel Vaccinations for Egypt

Egypt is one of the most popular package holiday and cruise destinations for UK travellers, taking in the Red Sea resorts of Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada as well as Cairo and the Nile.

For most visitors, hepatitis A and typhoid are the main vaccination discussion points, as both can spread through contaminated food and water. A travel health consultation confirms exactly what you need based on your itinerary, your health and how you plan to travel.

Traveller advice

Food and water hygiene is the practical priority, since hepatitis A and typhoid spread through contaminated food and water and travellers' diarrhoea is common. Favour bottled or treated water and avoid ice from unknown sources.

Egypt can be very hot, so plan for the heat and stay hydrated.

Rabies is present in Egypt and bats may carry rabies-like viruses, so avoid contact with animals. If you are bitten, scratched or licked on broken skin, clean the wound and seek urgent medical care.

What you need depends on your itinerary and health, so book a consultation, ideally four to six weeks before you travel, for advice matched to your trip.
