What is a travel health consultation?
A travel health consultation is a 30-minute appointment with our GPhC-registered pharmacist to assess exactly what you need to stay safe on your trip. Rather than guessing which vaccines or medications apply to your destination, a proper consultation takes your full travel itinerary, activities, medical history and previous vaccination record into account, giving you a personalised travel health plan.
We recommend booking your consultation at least 6 to 8 weeks before you travel. Some vaccines require multiple doses spaced weeks apart, and some medications need to be started before you leave. If your trip is sooner, it is never too late, we can accommodate last-minute travellers and discuss accelerated schedules where clinically appropriate.
What does the consultation cover?
- Full review of your travel itinerary, countries, regions, duration, accommodation type and planned activities
- Assessment of which vaccines are required for entry and which are recommended for your destination
- Malaria risk assessment and prescription for antimalarial tablets where needed
- Standby medications for traveller's diarrhoea, altitude sickness and Tamiflu where appropriate
- Review of your existing vaccination history to avoid unnecessary repeat doses
- Advice on food and water safety, insect bite prevention and sun protection
- Documentation including ICVP certificate for Yellow Fever if applicable
Who is it for?
Anyone travelling outside of Western Europe, North America or Australia should book a travel health consultation. It is particularly important if you are:
- Travelling to Africa, Asia, Central or South America, the Middle East or Eastern Europe
- Backpacking, camping, or staying in rural areas away from tourist facilities
- Visiting friends or family in countries where you were not born
- Pregnant, immunocompromised or travelling with young children
- Planning adventure activities such as trekking, cycling or wildlife contact
How do I book?
Book directly online, select your preferred appointment time and complete our pre-consultation travel health questionnaire. Bring any existing vaccination records or your NHS vaccination history if you have them.
Safety and what to expect
