HPV Vaccination for Adults: What You Need to Know
HPV vaccination is not only something to think about at school age. Some young adults can access NHS catch-up vaccination, certain higher-risk groups have specific NHS recommendations, and private vaccination may be an option for other adults following clinical assessment.

What is HPV?
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a group of viruses. Vaccination is used to reduce the risk from HPV types covered by the vaccine.
Can adults get HPV vaccination through the NHS?
NHS eligibility depends on age, sex, previous programme eligibility and certain risk factors. Current catch-up programmes have specific criteria, so check the latest NHS guidance rather than assuming you are or are not eligible.
What about private HPV vaccination?
Adults outside NHS eligibility may be able to access HPV vaccination privately. Suitability, the number and timing of doses and any relevant precautions are assessed individually.
Does vaccination replace screening?
Vaccination and screening have different roles. People invited for NHS cervical screening should continue to follow their screening invitations and NHS advice.
